OVERVIEW

Broughton Caravan Park, a long-standing customer, nestles 250 pitches within Gower's Outstanding Natural Beauty. With a commitment to renewable tech spanning may years, they prioritise reducing environmental impact while offering a serene escape near scenic Broughton Bay and Rhossili Bay.

SCOPE OF WORK

At Broughton Farm caravan park, our task was to enhance the existing solar infrastructure by installing a new 30kW PV array, fully optimised with Solar Edge Power Optimisers and a Solar Edge inverter. This project required seamless integration with the site's existing system, necessitating the installation of a new sub-main with dedicated cabling and approximately 50 meters of groundwork with ducting.

CHALLENGES

The park's coastal proximity presented challenges due to harsh weather conditions and salt exposure. To counter this, premium fixings and stainless-steel hardware were employed to safeguard against corrosion. Additionally, as the park remained operational, minimising disruption was crucial. Implementing out-of-hours shutdowns was essential to mitigate disturbances to the busy caravan park environment.

IMPACT

The successful implementation of the new PV array has resulted in a remarkable reduction in imported power from the grid. This project also prompted a reassessment of the original solar array, which lacked optimisation with Solar Edge technology. EV-Wales subsequently revisited the site, fully optimising the original array and upgrading the original inverter to a Solar Edge inverter. This upgrade provides the client with comprehensive visibility and control over both arrays, down to individual panel performance, fostering enhanced efficiency and management.
